nematode

Unsegmented cylindrical worm

Nematodes are tiny, unsegmented worms found in virtually every environment on Earth—soil, freshwater, oceans, and as parasites in plants and animals.

Also called roundworms, they have simple tubular bodies.

Most are microscopic and harmless, but some cause disease in humans (hookworms, pinworms) or devastate crops.

The soil sample contained thousands of nematodes.
