negator

One who denies

A negator is something that negates—a word, element, or force that denies, nullifies, or reverses.

In grammar, negators are words like *not*, *never*, and *no* that make statements negative: The negator "not" changes "I am" to "I am not".

More broadly, anything that cancels or contradicts can be called a negator: He was a negator of every hopeful idea.
