antiserum

Injection fighting toxins

Antiserum is blood serum containing antibodies against a specific pathogen or toxin, used to provide immediate but temporary immunity.

Unlike vaccines, which stimulate the body to produce its own antibodies, antiserum delivers ready-made antibodies harvested from humans or animals already exposed to the disease: The snakebite victim received antiserum within the hour.

Plural: antisera or antiserums.
