nanofiber
Microscopic synthetic thread
A nanofiber is an extremely thin fiber with a diameter measured in nanometers—billionths of a meter.
These fibers, typically made from polymers, carbon, or other materials, have applications in filtration, medicine, textiles, and electronics.
Their high surface-area-to-volume ratio gives them unique properties: nanofiber membranes for air filtration, nanofiber scaffolds for tissue engineering.
