supercapacitor

Rapid energy buffer

A supercapacitor is an electrical energy storage device that bridges the gap between conventional capacitors and rechargeable batteries.

It stores much more energy than a regular capacitor and can charge and discharge far faster than a battery, making it useful for applications requiring quick bursts of power: The bus uses supercapacitors to capture braking energy.

Also called an ultracapacitor.
