nanofibers
Microscopic threadlike structures
Nanofibers are extremely thin fibers with diameters measured in nanometers—typically under 1,000 nanometers, or one-thousandth of a millimeter.
They appear in materials science, medicine, and filtration, where their high surface-area-to-volume ratio proves useful: nanofiber membranes for air filtration, nanofiber scaffolds for tissue engineering.
Also spelled as two words: nano fibers.
