muffle furnace
Indirect heating chamber
A muffle furnace is a type of furnace in which the material being heated is isolated from the fuel and combustion products.
The heating chamber (the muffle) keeps samples separate from flames and gases, allowing precise temperature control and preventing contamination.
Used in laboratories for ashing samples, heat-treating metals, and firing ceramics: We placed the crucibles in the muffle furnace overnight.
