Wire-bordered decorative enamel
Cloisonné is a decorative metalwork technique where thin metal strips are soldered to a surface to form compartments, which are then filled with colored enamel or glass paste and fired.
The result is intricate, jewel-like patterns with raised metal outlines separating each color field.
The technique originated in the ancient Near East and flourished in Byzantine, Chinese, and Japanese art: a cloisonné vase, cloisonné jewelry.
