modals
Can, might, should
Modals are auxiliary verbs that express necessity, possibility, permission, or ability: can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would.
Unlike regular verbs, modals don't take -s in third person or use infinitives: She can swim, not She cans to swim.
Modal also describes anything relating to mode or manner, and in logic, modal concerns possibility and necessity rather than simple truth.
