memory-hole

Where facts vanish

Memory-hole comes from George Orwell's *1984*, where it names a chute for destroying documents that contradict official narratives.

The term now describes any mechanism—literal or figurative—for erasing inconvenient facts from the record.

As a verb, to memory-hole something is to deliberately suppress or erase it: The scandal was quickly memory-holed by the administration.
