efface
Make invisible completely
To efface is to erase or wipe out, making something disappear: Time had effaced the inscription on the stone.
The word often appears in reflexive form—to efface oneself is to make oneself inconspicuous, to fade into the background: She effaced herself at parties, preferring to observe.
An effacing manner is modest and self-deprecating.
