Black out means to lose consciousness or memory temporarily, often from alcohol, trauma, or physical stress: I blacked out after my third drink and don't remember getting home.
It also means to darken completely—turning off lights during wartime air raids, or a sudden loss of electrical power across an area.
In media, to black out coverage is to suppress or block it: The game was blacked out in the local market.
