memoriam

In honor, deceased

Memoriam appears almost exclusively in the Latin phrase in memoriam, meaning "in memory of." The phrase introduces tributes to the dead—dedications, obituaries, memorial donations: a donation in memoriam of her late husband.

Tennyson's elegy "In Memoriam A.H.H." helped establish the phrase in English.

Used alone, memoriam is rare and sounds incomplete.
