mechanical bank
Coin-catching novelty toy
A mechanical bank is a coin bank—usually made of cast iron—that performs an animated action when a coin is deposited.
Popular from the late 19th century, these banks feature figures that move, flip, or otherwise transport the coin into the bank's interior: The mechanical bank shows a frog that swallows the penny.
Antique mechanical banks are prized collectibles.
