A bulldog is a stocky, muscular dog breed with a wrinkled face, pushed-in nose, and distinctive underbite.
Originally bred for bull-baiting, modern bulldogs are companion animals known for their stubborn but gentle temperament.
The word extends to anything tenacious or determined: bulldog determination, bulldog grip.
As a verb, to bulldog is to wrestle a steer to the ground by grabbing its horns—a rodeo event.
British and French bulldogs are distinct breeds, the latter smaller with bat-like ears.
