money box

Coin storage vessel

A money box is a container for storing coins, typically with a slot for depositing money and a lock or removable bottom for retrieval.

Children use money boxes—often shaped like pigs (piggy banks)—to save coins: She dropped her allowance into her money box.

The term is more common in British than American English.
