marcasite

Vintage jewelry stone

Marcasite is a pale brass-yellow mineral, iron sulfide with the same composition as pyrite but a different crystal structure.

In jewelry, the term usually refers to small faceted stones of polished pyrite or steel set in silver: a vintage marcasite brooch, marcasite earrings.

The mineral itself is too brittle for jewelry use.
