man o' war
Armed sailing vessel
A man o' war is a warship, especially a large sailing vessel armed with cannons from the age of naval warfare: The British man o' war dominated the seas.
The Portuguese man o' war is an unrelated creature—a colonial organism resembling a jellyfish, named for its sail-like float that recalls a ship under sail.
Its tentacles deliver a painful sting.
