magnetisation

Inducing magnetic properties

Magnetisation is the British spelling of magnetization—the process of making something magnetic or the degree to which something has become magnetic.

A material undergoes magnetisation when its atomic magnetic moments align in the same direction: The magnetisation of the iron filings revealed the field's shape.

In physics, magnetisation also refers to the magnetic moment per unit volume of a magnetised material.
