lookouts

Elevated observation stations

Lookouts are people stationed to watch for danger or anything of interest: The gang posted lookouts at both ends of the street.

The word also names the places where such watching happens—elevated spots offering wide views: a scenic lookout over the valley.

To be on the lookout for something is to watch for it actively.
