lipoprotein lipase

Triglyceride-splitting protein

Lipoprotein lipase is an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides in lipoproteins—the particles that transport fats through the bloodstream.

Found on the walls of blood vessels, it releases fatty acids from circulating lipoproteins so tissues can absorb them for energy or storage.

Deficiency causes severely elevated blood fats: Lipoprotein lipase deficiency can lead to dangerous triglyceride levels.
