lipogenesis
Creating fatty acids
Lipogenesis is the metabolic process by which the body converts sugars and other substances into fat for storage.
It occurs primarily in the liver and adipose tissue.
When caloric intake exceeds energy needs, lipogenesis increases: High-carbohydrate diets stimulate lipogenesis.
The opposite process—breaking down fat for energy—is lipolysis.
