LDL

Plaque-forming lipid carrier

LDL stands for low-density lipoprotein, a type of cholesterol-carrying particle in the blood.

Often called "bad cholesterol" because high levels contribute to plaque buildup in arteries, increasing risk of heart disease and stroke: My doctor wants me to lower my LDL.

Contrasted with HDL, the "good cholesterol."
