legal remedy

Judicial corrective measure

A legal remedy is a court-ordered solution to compensate for a wrong or enforce a right.

The most common remedy is monetary damages, but remedies also include injunctions (orders to do or stop doing something), specific performance (requiring a party to fulfill a contract), and declaratory judgments.

The plaintiff sought a legal remedy for breach of contract.

When someone says they have no legal remedy, they mean the courts cannot or will not help them.
