receivership
Appointed asset oversight
Receivership is a legal status in which a court-appointed receiver takes control of a business or property, typically because of bankruptcy, debt default, or mismanagement.
The receiver manages assets to protect creditors' interests: The company was placed into receivership after failing to make loan payments.
The arrangement is usually temporary, ending when debts are resolved or the entity is sold or liquidated.
