lay-up

Easy two-pointer

A lay-up is a basketball shot made close to the basket, typically by bouncing the ball off the backboard while moving toward the hoop: She drove past the defender for an easy lay-up.

The term extends to anything requiring minimal effort—a sure thing or easy task: That question was a lay-up.

In manufacturing, lay-up refers to the process of placing materials in a mold before curing.
