bank shot
Rebound off glass
A bank shot is a shot in billiards, pool, or basketball where the ball bounces off a surface—the cushion of the table or the backboard—before reaching its target.
The term extends to any indirect approach that uses an intermediary to achieve a goal: He got the job through a bank shot—his cousin knew the hiring manager.
