iron shot
Mid-distance golf swing
Iron shot refers to small pellets or balls made of iron, used historically as ammunition for firearms, cannons, or shotguns before lead became standard.
In golf, an iron shot is a stroke played with an iron club rather than a wood or putter: She hit a beautiful iron shot onto the green.
The term also appears in shot put, where the spherical weight was traditionally iron.
