cohousing
Intentional communal living
Cohousing is a type of intentional community where residents have private homes but share common spaces and resources—a communal kitchen, garden, laundry, or childcare.
Residents typically participate in designing the community and make decisions collectively.
The model originated in Denmark in the 1960s and emphasizes neighborly interaction while preserving individual autonomy: They moved into a cohousing development to have more support raising their kids.
