jumping spider
Pouncing eight-legged hunter
A jumping spider is a small spider that stalks and pounces on prey rather than building webs to trap it.
These spiders have excellent vision, with large forward-facing eyes that give them an alert, almost curious appearance.
They move in quick, jerky hops and can leap many times their body length.
Jumping spiders are common household visitors and generally harmless to humans.
