trapdoor spider
Lid-dwelling arachnid
A trapdoor spider is any of various burrowing spiders that construct a hinged lid of silk and soil over their underground dwelling.
The spider waits beneath this camouflaged door, lunging out to seize passing prey: A trapdoor spider snatched the cricket before it could react.
