hula hoops

Spinning waist toys

Hula hoops are large plastic rings spun around the body, typically the waist, by rhythmic hip movements.

Originally a children's toy and 1950s craze, they remain popular for play and exercise: She can keep three hula hoops going at once.

The name comes from the similarity of the hip motion to Hawaiian hula dancing.
