horning
Developing pointed outgrowths
Horning is the practice of publicly shaming someone, traditionally by making loud noise with horns outside their home.
The custom targeted those who violated community standards—particularly cuckolded husbands or unfaithful spouses.
In some Caribbean cultures, horning means committing adultery: She caught him horning with the neighbor.
The word connects to the old association between cuckoldry and horns.
