disbudding
Pinching off shoots
Disbudding is the removal of buds from a plant or animal.
In horticulture, it means pinching off flower or leaf buds to direct growth energy elsewhere: Disbudding roses produces fewer but larger blooms.
In livestock management, it refers to destroying horn buds in young cattle or goats, usually by burning, to prevent horn growth.
