high place
Where altitude increases
A high place is a site of worship, typically on a hill or elevated ground, associated with ancient Near Eastern and biblical religions.
The term appears frequently in Old Testament translations, where Israelite prophets condemn high places as sites of idol worship or unauthorized sacrifice: The king tore down the high places.
Beyond religious contexts, high place sometimes means a position of power or authority: corruption in high places.
