church altar
Sacred worship platform
A church altar is the table or raised structure at the front of a Christian church where communion is celebrated and other sacred rites performed.
In Catholic and Orthodox traditions, the altar is the focal point of worship, often ornate and positioned in the sanctuary.
Protestant churches may use simpler communion tables.
The priest stood before the church altar to begin the service.
