guy lines
Mast steadying ropes
Guy lines are ropes or cords used to stabilize and secure a tent, canopy, or other freestanding structure by anchoring it to the ground at an angle.
They prevent the structure from collapsing in wind or shifting under stress: Make sure the guy lines are taut before the storm hits.
Also called guy ropes or simply guys.
