bear canister
Wildlife-proof food container
A bear canister is a hard-sided container designed to keep food safe from bears while camping or backpacking.
The sealed cylindrical shape and smooth surface prevent bears from biting through or prying them open.
Many wilderness areas require them: Rangers checked that everyone had a bear canister before issuing permits.
