guide rail
Linear movement channel
A guide rail is a bar or rail that directs movement along a path or prevents straying from it.
On roads, guide rails keep vehicles from leaving the pavement; in machinery, they channel parts along precise tracks.
The term applies wherever something needs physical guidance: The drawer slides along guide rails.
