groundline

Where ground meets

The groundline is the line where the ground meets the sky or a structure in visual representation—the baseline in drawings, paintings, and architectural renderings that establishes where figures and objects rest.

In perspective drawing, the groundline serves as the foundation from which vertical measurements are taken: Place the figure's feet on the groundline.
