greenling
North Pacific fish
Greenling refers to any of several fish in the family Hexagrammidae, found in North Pacific coastal waters.
These bottom-dwelling fish have elongated bodies and are popular with anglers: We caught a nice lingcod and a couple of greenlings off the jetty.
The name reflects their often greenish coloration, though species vary from olive to brown to blue.
