gravity waves
Curvature propagating outward
Gravity waves are waves in a fluid medium where gravity acts as the restoring force—ocean swells and atmospheric waves that form over mountains are examples.
The term is often confused with gravitational waves, which are ripples in spacetime caused by massive accelerating objects like colliding black holes.
Physicists distinguish the two carefully: gravity waves belong to fluid dynamics, gravitational waves to Einstein's general relativity.
