ashwagandha

Indian ginseng supplement

Ashwagandha is an evergreen shrub native to India and parts of Africa, used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine.

The root and berry are processed into supplements marketed for stress relief, energy, and cognitive function: I started taking ashwagandha for anxiety.

The name comes from Sanskrit words meaning "smell of horse," referring to both the root's odor and its purported ability to impart strength.
