Get onto means to board or climb upon: We got onto the train just before it left.
It also means to make contact with someone, especially to communicate: I'll get onto the landlord about the leak.
In British usage particularly, to get onto someone can mean to nag or criticize them repeatedly: My mother keeps getting onto me about finding a job.
