gentlemen's club
Members-only social venue
A gentlemen's club is a strip club—an establishment where women perform nude or semi-nude dances, typically offering private "lap dances" for paying customers.
The term is a euphemism that lends respectability to what earlier generations called burlesque houses or go-go bars.
The older sense—a private social club for upper-class men, like London's traditional clubs—survives mainly in British usage: He lunched at his gentlemen's club in St. James's.
