public bar
Common drinking room
A public bar is the section of a British pub with simpler furnishings and lower prices, traditionally distinguished from the saloon bar or lounge, which offered more comfortable seating at higher cost.
The distinction has largely faded in modern pubs, though some older establishments retain separate bars: We'll be in the public bar if you want to join us.
