genera
Families split further
Genera is the plural of genus—a category in biological classification ranking above species and below family.
Scientists group organisms into genera based on shared characteristics: The genus Canis includes wolves, dogs, and coyotes.
Outside biology, genera can refer to any class or kind sharing common attributes, though this use is rare.
The anglicized plural genuses also exists but sounds awkward to most ears.
