eubacteria

True bacterial domain

Eubacteria is a scientific term for the vast majority of bacteria—the ordinary, "true" bacteria as distinguished from archaea, which were once grouped together with them.

The distinction matters in evolutionary biology: eubacteria and archaea represent two fundamentally different domains of life, despite both being single-celled organisms without nuclei.

In casual use, when people say "bacteria," they almost always mean eubacteria.
