gars
Elongated freshwater predators
Gars is the plural of gar, a freshwater fish with an elongated body, long snout, and sharp teeth.
Found mainly in North American rivers and lakes, gars are among the oldest surviving fish species.
The gars were sunning themselves near the surface.
Also a dialectal form of "goes" in some British dialects.
