deep-sea fish

Dweller below sunlight

Deep-sea fish are species adapted to life in the ocean's deepest zones, typically below 200 meters where sunlight cannot penetrate.

Many have evolved striking features to survive extreme pressure, cold, and darkness: bioluminescent organs, enormous eyes, expandable stomachs, and grotesque jaws lined with needle teeth.

The anglerfish, with its luminous lure, is perhaps the most iconic.

The documentary featured bizarre deep-sea fish from hydrothermal vents.
